A man suspected of waving a baseball bat, threatening passers by and hitting multiple occupied vehicles, was shot and killed Wednesday evening by Los Angeles Police Department officers.

The shooting occurred round 8 p.m. in the vicinity of Normandie Avenue and the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, according to the LAPD.

Arriving officers encountered the suspect and wound up shooting him, police said.

The wounded suspect was taken into custody and brought to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, said police.

No civilians or officers were injured, police said.

The bat was recovered at the scene and booked into evidence, police said.

The stretch of Normandie Avenue in the vicinity of the shooting was closed to allow for an investigation of the shooting, police said.
