A 60-year-old man who died two days after being struck by a Long Beach Transit bus was identified by county authorities Thursday.
The pedestrian, identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as William Gallagher of Los Angeles, was struck at about 1:05 p.m. July 21 in the 400 block of Golden Shore.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the bus was making a left turn onto an access road when it struck Gallagher as he was crossing the street.
Several good Samaritans rushed to assist the man until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, who took him to a hospital in critical condition, police said. The man died at the hospital on July 23.
The bus driver cooperated with detectives. Police said speed was not believed to be a factor in the fatal crash, nor were distracted or impaired driving.
