A 35-year-old man was shot in the abdomen during an attempted robbery at a smoke shop in the Westlake neighborhood, authorities said Thursday.
Los Angeles police and fire personnel responded to reports of a shooting at about 1 a.m. Wednesday at 2703 West Eighth St. near the intersection of South Hoover Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Arriving officers located the victim with a gunshot wound. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the man to a hospital in unknown condition.
It remained unclear whether the victim was a customer or an employee of the business.
No property was taken during the attempted robbery, police said. The suspect fled the scene in a white BMW.
