A mountain lion was spotted Friday in San Dimas, prompting warnings for residents to avoid the area while state and local authorities worked to tranquilize the animal, which was captured by early afternoon.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department San Dimas Station, the lion was spotted roaming a residential neighborhood along Foothill Avenue between San Dimas Avenue and San Dimas Canyon Road.
“Please avoid the area this morning until the mountain lion has been safely relocated,” sheriff’s officials posted on social media. “Residents in the area are encouraged to secure all pets and remove or secure any outdoor food that could attract wildlife to residential properties. Runners, pedestrians and residents are asked to remain vigilant.”
State Fish and Wildlife officials responded to the scene, along with sheriff’s department personnel, to corral the lion, which appeared to be lying in some brush alongside the roadway.
By Friday afternoon, wildlife officials managed to successfully tranquilize the lion, which was then loaded into a truck and taken away from the area.
