One person was arrested for resisting arrest during a demonstration in downtown Los Angeles, where protesters allegedly assaulted a federal detention officer who was walking to his vehicle, authorities said Sunday.
The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. Saturday in the area of North Alameda and East Commercial Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division.
“Last night, demonstrators were out protesting in the area when they began to follow federal employees to their cars in a local parking lot,” according to a police statement. “The demonstrators suddenly and deliberately attacked the federal employees striking them multiple times.”
LAPD officers were dispatched to the scene, where a suspect was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest. The suspect was not connected to the demonstrators who allegedly attacked the federal detention officer, police said.
Paramedics took the federal officer to a hospital with stable vital signs, according to the LAPD’s Media Relation Division.
