A judge has denied on technical grounds a motion by the mother of a doctor who was fatally shot outside his Woodland Hills medical office in 2024 to consolidate her lawsuit with that of one filed by other relatives.
Dr. Hamid Mirshojae, 57, died in what prosecutors say was a murder-for-hire scheme by the physician’s ex-wife and four alleged co-conspirators. Mirshojae’s widow, Ghazal Simorgh, filed a lawsuit on behalf of herself and the former couple’s minor daughter in July 2025, while the doctor’s mother, Razieh Shahidi, brought her separate case on June 17 of this year.
On Wednesday, Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Karen Moskowitz denied Shahidi’s motion to consolidate the cases, citing an issue in the filing of the case and the fact that Shahidi is not a plaintiff in the Simorgh action and therefore lacks standing to bring the motion.
Shahidi’s attorney maintained in his court papers that consolidation will “ensure that all of the decedent’s heirs are before the court in a single proceeding, will avoid duplicative litigation and the risk of inconsistent adjudications and will promote judicial economy without prejudice to any party.”
The judge’s ruling was “without prejudice,” meaning it can be brought again later.
Mirshojae, 57, was an internal medicine physician and former reality television medical expert. He was ambushed and fatally shot in the parking lot of Warner Plaza Medical Center on Aug. 23, 2024. The killing was allegedly the culmination of a met plot allegedly devised by his ex-wife, 54-year-old Calabasas resident Ahang Mirshojae, that was motivated by her jealousy and financial greed.
The lawsuits contend that Ahang Mirshojae enlisted four lawsuit co-defendants to help execute the murder and both cases allege wrongful death and intentional infliction of emotional distress. In addition, Ahang Mirshojae pleaded not guilty to murder on Monday. She and the doctor divorced in 2010.
