A 35-year-old man suspected of a home burglary in Studio City has been taken into custody, police announced Friday.
Officers assigned to the North Hollywood Community Police Station responded last Friday to the 3800 block of Rhodes Avenue, about one-third of a mile south of Ventura Boulevard, to reports of a possible burglary in progress, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said the homeowner was away when they received a security alarm notification and, through surveillance cameras, observed an unidentified man on the property.
The responding officers searched the home, discovered damage to a rear sliding glass door, and determined the suspect was unable to gain entrance.
“During the following days, the homeowner continued to observe the same individual repeatedly entering the property through his surveillance camera,” the police department said in a statement.
Detectives discovered through further investigation that the suspect had accessed a separate structure on the property and taken items belonging to the homeowner, police said.
A male suspect was observed in the backyard of the home Monday, prompting officers to arrive at the location. The suspect was found on the premises and taken into custody without incident.
The homeowner identified him as the same individual seen on surveillance footage during previous attempted burglaries at the residence.
The suspect, identified as Gavin Gregory Gist, was booked at the Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of felony burglary.
Police said detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the burglary and were continuing efforts to determine whether Gist may be connected to any additional related offenses in the area.
