A fast-moving brush fire briefly threatened homes in the Acton area Friday, but crews were able to hold the blaze to roughly 10-15 acres and prevent any structural damage.

Firefighters responded around 2:40 p.m. Friday to the fire burning alongside the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, east of the Escondido Canyon Road offramp, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire spotted south of Escondido Canyon Road, moving closer to structures and prompting evacuation warnings for some residents.

An LACoFD spokeswoman told City News Service the fire’s forward progress was stopped around 3:25 p.m., and the evacuation warnings were downgraded and all water-dropping aircraft assigned to the fire were released from the scene.

No injuries or structural damage were reported. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, although a report from the scene indicated a vehicle fire may have spread to the brush.
