The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education is expected Tuesday to give final approval of a new contract with teachers, following its overwhelming approval by members of the union representing the district’s teachers.
The new collective bargaining agreement was approved by 97.4 percent of members of United Teachers Los Angeles casting ballots, according to results released Friday night by the union.
The vote in favor of the agreement was 24,743-664.
A separate health benefits agreement was approved by 99.2 percent of union members casting ballots, 25,166-200.
The turnout of the more than 25,000 UTLA members was 83 percent.
The three-year contract increases salaries by roughly 10.4 percent.
According to UTLA, the proposed contract includes a 4 percent raise retroactive to July 1, 2014, and another 2 percent retroactive to Jan. 1 of this year. It also includes another 2 percent raise effective July 1, and another 1 percent effective Jan. 1.
Agreement on the contract was reached on April 17.
“The collective bargaining agreement is good for educators and students — with class-size caps, lower counselor-to-student ratios, improved learning and working conditions, and fair compensation,” UTLA president Alex Caputo- Pearl said on Friday.
“The health benefits agreement extends fully funded health care benefits for all UTLA members and all our LAUSD labor partners.”
