A 15-year-old boy who apparently tried hanging himself at a football field near Pasadena High School was in critical condition in a hospital Thursday.

Firefighters were called about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday to 2925 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., the location of Pasadena High School, and were then redirected to the football field adjacent to Victory Park, according to Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department.

They found the teen on the ground.

The patient was in critical condition when taken to a hospital, Derderian said.

“No students witnessed the incident,” she said.

The teen is believed to have transferred to Pasadena High School recently, police said.

Fire and police officials met with personnel from the Pasadena Unified School District “to coordinate notification messages to staff and parents offering counseling support if needed,” Derderian said.
