Firefighters made quick work of a two-alarm blaze in a science lab at a Fullerton elementary school Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called at 3:19 p.m. to Laguna Road Elementary t 300 Laguna Road, where the fire broke out in a small science classroom next to the library after the end of the regular school day, said Fullerton-Brea Fire Division Chief Kathy Schaefer.
It was raised to a second-alarm because it was not initially clear how many students were on campus, Schaefer said. There were less than 30 students in the after-school program, and no one was injured, she said.
A teacher noticed heavy smoke coming from the lab so she shut the door and called 911, Schaefer said. The teacher ushered the students out of the school to safety.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which was confined to the lab, by 3:52 p.m., Schaefer said.
Classes will resume Thursday, but the library will be closed, she said.
