A gift of 15 rare sports cars worth $10 million has put Cal State Fullerton’s first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign into high gear before its official start date.

According to CSUF, a “longtime university supporter,” whose identity has yet to be publicly revealed, gifted the school with the sports car collection, which includes such brands as Pegaso, Lamborghini, Talbot-Lago, Ferrari and a De Tomaso Pantera Coupe — many of which were factory-direct purchases made in the 1950s.

The Pegasos are from 1953 and 1954 — years when only 84 of both models were made, CSUF officials said. A 1964 Porsche 904 GTS Coupe is one of just 126 produced.

The five-year, $200 million “It Takes a Titan” fundraising campaign, which is set to launch March 12, is the first one of its kind in the university’s 63-year history, CSUF officials said.

“Our theme, `It Takes a Titan,’ has many poignant interpretations, but none more important than the idea that this aspiration will take more than a Titan — it will take our entire Titan family,” CSUF President Framroze Virjee said.
