A gas leak prompted the precautionary evacuations of Moreno Valley College, an elementary school and an apartment building Monday.
The leak was reported about 9:10 a.m. at an apartment building in the 16300 block of Lasselle Street, where a gas line was damaged amid construction work, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. No injuries were reported.
Riverside County sheriff’s deputies responded to coordinate evacuations of the apartment building, along with Lasselle Elementary on Krameria Avenue and the college campus.
The elementary school evacuation affected only the faculty, the fire department reported. Students were not on campus due to COVID-19 remote learning protocols.
Moreno Valley College is additionally offering only remote learning due to the pandemic. It is unclear who was on campus at the time of the mandatory evacuation.
There was no immediate word on when the evacuations would be lifted.
