The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Friday announced a 5K Run at Dodger Stadium this weekend.
The charitable run will be presented by UCLA Health at the Health and Wellness Expo on Saturday at 7:10 p.m. It will host 4,500 runners and additional runners virtually.
Nichol Witeman, CEO of LADF, said “With firm practices in place to keep runners safe, we are thrilled to reconnect and raise funds to support the most vulnerable Angelenos, many of whom endured the physical, emotional and financial devastation that disproportionately impacted communities that were already struggling,” before the pandemic.
UCLA Health will offer giveaways to all attendees including nutritional information, sunscreen samples and activities to test athleticism. Medical professionals will provide information on COVID-19 and vaccinations.
Levelwear and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power sponsor the Health and Wellness Expo. The event hosts installations by A3M Hope, Generic Events, Handy Randy’s Plumbing Specialists, Medic Up Consulting and the U.S. Marine Corps, among others.
Both events comply with guidelines from the county and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and encourage social distancing and will have runners start in separate groups. There will be no water stations along the course, so runners are encouraged to bring their own bottle to refill at free fill stations. Desani will award all racers at the finish line with a water bottle and fresh fruit from Melissa’s Produce. All participants over 21 can celebrate with a free beer from Michelob Ultra.
Other giveaways include a Corey Seager World Champion Edition bobblehead, a Dodger ’21 tech shirt and World Champion finisher’s medal. All-star packages include a second bobblehead and LA Runs fanny pack.
Runners will receive race packets on Friday between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Centerfield Plaza, where the Expo and concessions will be open. Participants are entitled to 20% off merchandise all weekend at the Dodger team store by showing their race bib.
Check-in for the race begins Saturday at 5 p.m., followed by the 5k Starting Gun Ceremony featuring UCLA health at 7:05 p.m. The 5K begins at 7:10 p.m. and the event concludes at 9 p.m.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, which describes its mission as aiming to improve education, health care, homelessness and social justice for all Angelenos, and which to date, has invested $31 million in programs and grants to nonprofits.
