The storied football rivalry between the USC Trojans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be renewed starting 2030, with USC announcing Monday an agreement for a four-game series.
According to the university, the teams will square off in week one of the 2030 season at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The rivalry will shift to Notre Dame Stadium for week one of the following season.
The teams will play again in the 2032 and 2033 seasons, but the dates of those matchups will be announced at a later time.
“USC’s historic rivalry with Notre Dame holds a special place in the history of college football, and we are happy to resume a series that means so much to the entire Trojan Family,” USC Athletic Director Jen Cohen said in a statement. “It remains important for us to play this game early in the season, as it allows us to schedule competitively with our Big Ten peers and takes into account the health and best interests of our student-athletes and program. We are excited for our fans, and we look forward to more memorable matchups and unforgettable games between the Trojans and the Irish.”
USC coach Lincoln Riley told the Los Angeles Times it made sense to have the Notre Dame rivalry game early in the season, which is traditionally when teams take on non-conference opponents.
“As I’ve said publicly, we’re a part of a conference,” Riley told the paper. “We have a conference schedule to answer to. We don’t make our own schedule, we don’t choose our own kickoff times. And so with that, we have much less flexibility and so it made more sense for us to play this game in a traditional non-conference window.”
