A wildfire that broke out near the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal is 60% contained Friday and has spread to 50 acres.
The fire started around 10 p.m. Thursday south of Airport Boulevard and west of Grapefuit Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
An evacuation order for the area was issued by Cal Fire, but was lifted around 3:30 a.m. Friday.
As of 8 a.m. Friday, crews were able to increase the containment from 40% to 60%, and will remain in the area to fully contain the fire, officials said.
There were 21 engines, one dozer and three water tenders assigned to fight the fire.
The fire led to road closures in Thermal. They are:
— Main Street from Grapefruit Boulevard to Church Street;
— Kokell Avenue from Grapefruit to Polk Street;
— 59th Avenue from Fillmore Street to Polk; and
— 60th Avenue to Fillmore and Polk.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
