A car fire sparked a brush fire along the Golden State (5) Freeway in the Castaic area Tuesday, temporarily closing lanes and delaying traffic on the major corridor linking Los Angeles with the San Joaquin Valley.
The fire was reported around noon on the northbound side of the freeway, about one mile north of Templin Highway, according to Angeles National Forest officials.
Dozers and at least one water-dropping helicopter were deployed to the scene. Crews halted the fire’s forward progress by about 12:30 p.m., after it burned approximately eight acres, agency officials said.
One northbound lane remained closed as firefighters worked to fully contain the blaze. Drivers were advised to expect delays.
