A brush fire that broke out Friday southeast of Lake Mathews scorched roughly two acres before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported just before noon Friday in the area of Rolling Meadows and Lake Mathews drives, in the unincorporated community of Gavilan Hills, about three miles southeast of Lake Mathews, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency stated that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate in open space bounded by roads. No homes or other structures were threatened.

Two Cal Fire air tankers were requested, but by the time they arrived, firefighters were already making swift progress buttoning up the brusher. Its forward rate of spread was stopped at 12:25 p.m., according to officials at the scene.

Full containment was expected by 1:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
