Authorities Monday identified one of two people killed in a weekend house fire in Sunland that also injured five others, including one person critically.
The blaze was reported about 11:10 p.m. Saturday at a single-story house in the 10900 block of North Scoville Avenue, near Wentworth Street, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
Flames were showing when firefighters arrived and received reports of elderly residents trapped inside. It took 36 firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, Stewart said.
“During the fire attack, crews located one person and conducted a rapid transport to the hospital,” Stewart said. “Two additional patients were located but were beyond medical help and determined deceased on scene.”
Serouzh Setrakvartanes, 77, of Sunland, was among those killed, according to the county Medical Examiner’s office. A second victim, listed as “unidentified Doe,” also died at the scene. The cause and manner of death were not immediately released.
An 87-year-old man was found outside the home with critical burns and was taken to a hospital, Stewart said.
Four other adults outside the home were also hospitalized with varying degrees of smoke inhalation, and another person declined further treatment, Stewart said.
At least 16 people were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross and the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team responded to assist those affected.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

The 87 year old man who was found outside was my father and he passed at 12:48am this morning.
I’m so sorry for your loss, I will pray for you and your family during this difficult time. My brother also resided there. I would love to speak to you sometime if you’re willing.
