Fire ripped through the roof of a one-story commercial building Friday in the Hyde Park section of South Los Angeles, forcing crews to fight the flames from outside the structure.
The fire was reported at 11:25 a.m. at 2311 W. Southwest Drive, at a building that was the site of a previous fire, said Margaret Stewart, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Additional crews were summoned to the scene, and the first arriving 68 firefighters put the fire out in 29 minutes with no injuries reported, Stewart said.
Crews initially used ladder pipes and large-diameter hand lines to fight the blaze from defensive positions, she said.
