Three residents and a firefighter were injured Monday when a fire broke out and razed a two-story home while spreading to adjacent structures in the Pico-Union area near downtown Los Angeles.
The fire was reported just after 9 a.m. at a Craftsman-style home at 1232 S. Bonnie Brae St., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Two people were rescued from the second floor, according to LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz, who said a total of three patients were treated and in fair condition, with all declining to be taken to a hospital.
A firefighter sustained a minor injury, she said.
One corner of the home partially collapsed soon after firefighters arrived, Lantz said.
Crews took up defensive positions, fighting the blaze from outside the structure.
The fire spread to two adjacent buildings. Crews put out the flames in one and then contended with fire in the walls of another, according to Lantz.
The Craftsman was completely destroyed and crews were still dousing flames more than an hour after the fire was reported.
The fire was declared out after a 97-minute battle involving 120 firefighters.
Building inspectors and personnel from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Southern California Gas Co. were called to the scene.
City Transportation Department personnel were directing traffic in the area and motorists were advised to use alternate routes due to the large emergency response, Lantz said.
