A brush fire erupted near Hemet Friday and charred nearly 17 acres.

The non-injury blaze was reported shortly after 4 a.m. Friday in the 4660 block of Bautista Canyon Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

By around 10 a.m., firefighters had the blaze 35% contained.

The agency stated that arriving crews initially encountered a three-acre vegetation fire. They sent 21 engines, six hand crews, two dozers and two water tenders to douse the flames that increased to 16 1/2 acres, officials said.

There was no immediate word on what might have triggered the blaze.
