A grass fire broke out near the Antelope Valley west of Lancaster Monday and quickly scorched around 100 acres, prompting a second-alarm response.

The fire was reported at about 11:30 a.m. Monday in the area of West Avenue C and 190th Street West in the community of Fairmont, which is along state Route 138 east of Sandberg and west of Lancaster, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Dubbed the Rock Fire, the blaze went to a second alarm at 11:46 a.m., according to the fire department.

By about 12:30 p.m., crews has the blaze 25% contained and by 12:55 the fire’s forward progress had been halted.
