Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced Wednesday that she will seek a second term.
Lacey — the county’s first female and first black district attorney — was elected in November 2012 to replace her former boss, Steve Cooley.
She was sworn in Dec. 3, 2012, for a four-year term.
“We are off to a good start, but I hope that the voters of Los Angeles County will allow me to see these efforts to completion,” Lacey said in a written statement.
Lacey said her top priority during her first two years in office was “taking violent and dangerous criminals off our streets.”
“I added resources to protect children against human traffickers and to safeguard our communities against environmental crimes that threaten our health and livelihood.”
Lacey said she has also engaged the business community on how to better protect themselves and their customers against “cyber-intrusions” and to help put high-tech criminals behind bars, along with prosecuting government officials who violate the public’s trust.
The county’s top prosecutor said she has also brought together a “diverse group” to examine how people with mental illness are handled within the criminal justice system.
