Mayor Eric Garcetti will take a day trip to Nevada Saturday to help knock on doors and campaign for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ahead of the Feb. 20 Nevada caucuses.

In addition to “rallying the troops” and getting Clinton supporters to the caucuses, Garcetti is also expected to take part in “organizational” activities, visit local headquarters and greet canvassers, according to Garcetti’s campaign strategist Bill Carrick.

Carrick said Garcetti picked Nevada to lend a hand to Clinton’s campaign due to its proximity, and he went to the same state while campaigning for then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008, Carrick said.

Garcetti is scheduled to participate in the opening ceremony for today’s U.S. Olympic Team Marathon Trials. He is set to return to Los Angeles in time to signal the start of Sunday’s Los Angeles Marathon and present awards to the winners.

Garcetti boosted Clinton earlier this week in a video posted on his personal Twitter account, saying he feels she is “an idealist who can get the job done.” He announced his endorsement of Clinton in November.

The trip will be Garcetti’s second out of California this year. He was in Washington, D.C. in January for the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting.
