Don’t try to use the eastbound side of the Foothill (210) Freeway through Pasadena this weekend.

It’s completely shut down and you’re likely to find yourself in something of a traffic jam as you’re routed away from the freeway on onto crowded surface streets.

The final chapter of what has become known as “RoseJam” is underway as the stretch of the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway is closed in Pasadena for 34 hours for road repairs.

All eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed between Mountain Street and Lake Avenue around 7 p.m. Friday and aren’t expected to reopen until 5 a.m. Monday.

The eastbound 210 connector to the westbound Ventura (134) Freeway is also closed, along with the eastbound 210 on-ramps at Lincoln Avenue and Mountain Street.

The closures– following recent 55-hour closures on the same stretch of freeway — are part of an effort to repair and repave the roadway.

According to Caltrans, the freeway’s use as a major connector between Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties means the “road has experienced extensive wear.”

“The closures are part of a $148.5 million pavement rehabilitation project in both directions of I-210 in the cities of Glendale, La Canada Flintridge and Pasadena,” according to Caltrans. “Once the project is completed in 2019 the new surface will provide a smoother, safer drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance and minimize the need for further lane closures.”
