Changes in the municipal election calendar and a discussion of homelessness are among the topics going before the Palm Springs City Council Wednesday evening.
The council will consider changing municipal elections from November in odd-numbered years to even-numbered years.
By synchronizing the municipal elections with state elections, voter turnout at the local level could improve by 21 to 36 percent, according to Common Cause, a nonpartisan group.
The Coachella Valley Association of Governments will also present recommendations to the City Council to help combat homelessness in the Coachella Valley.
Other items on the agenda include a resolution to consider sanctuary status for Palm Springs and a public hearing on the development of a 60-unit affordable housing project at 3130 N. Indian Canyon Drive.
