Rep. Grace Napolitano is known as a champion for the environment and water recycling, and Thursday the Metropolitan Water District plans to rename the Pure Water Southern California demonstration plant after her.

Napolitano, D-El Monte, who is retiring at the end of her term, will be on hand at the ceremony. The plant will be called the Grace F. Napolitano Pure Water Southern California Innovation Center “for her unvwavering dedication to water sustainability and reliability for all of Southern California,” according to a statement.

“Throughout her remarkable legislative career, Rep. Napolitano has championed recycled water, building federal support for the technology and bringing federal funds to projects across the region, as part of her commitment to advancing sustainable water solutions for Southern Californians,” the statement says.

The ceremony will be at the Grace F. Napolitano Pure Water Southern California Innovation Center, 24501 S. Figueroa St.

The event will also be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/mwdh2o.
