Authorities Thursday identified a motorcyclist who was struck and killed by a Metro A Line train in Long Beach.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the man as Mathew Loayza, 27, whose city of residence was not known.
The Metro A (Blue) Line train hit the motorcycle about 6 p.m. Wednesday near the Long Beach Boulevard and Eighth Street grade crossing, according to Metro spokesman Dave Sotero.
Long Beach Police Department officers arrived at the location and attempted life-saving measures before the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, who pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene, according to the LBPD.
“Metro extends its heartfelt condolences to the motorcyclist’s family and friends. We are working closely with the Long Beach Police Department as they investigate the cause of this incident,” Metro said in a statement. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of Metro’s customers and the communities we serve. In fact, it’s our highest priority.”
