Democratic challenger Derek Tran overtook Republican Rep. Michelle Steel’s lead Saturday in the race for the 45th Congressional District.
On Saturday, Tran took a 36-vote edge over Steel, R-Seal Beach, who had been in the lead since Election Day, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
After Friday’s ballot counting, Steel was on top by 58 votes.
The latest tally showed Steel with 152,945 votes, compared to Tran’s 152,981. Both candidates are at 50%.
Steel leads was 138,320-134,168, 50.8%-49.2%, in the Orange County portion of the district but trails 18,813-14,625, 56.3%-43.7%, in the Los Angeles County portion, which remained unchanged from Friday.
It is not known how many ballots remain to be counted in the district.
