Two lanes in each direction of the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway in South Los Angeles will be temporarily closed this weekend as part of Metro’s I-105 ExpressLanes project, which officials say is expected to cut commute times by as much as 50%.
The closures near the Prairie Avenue off-ramp to Hawthorne Boulevard are scheduled to allow crews to install overhead sign structures needed for the future operation of the ExpressLanes.
Westbound lane closures are scheduled from 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday, while eastbound lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Metro officials said the project will convert existing high-occupancy vehicle lanes into two dedicated ExpressLanes in each direction between Sepulveda Boulevard and Studebaker Road.
A bus bridge will replace Metro C Line rail service between the Crenshaw and Hawthorne/Lennox stations from 9 p.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday to accommodate construction. Shuttle buses also will operate between the Vermont/Athens and Hawthorne/Lennox stations during that period.
Metro said the first segment of the ExpressLanes project, from Sepulveda Boulevard to Central Avenue, is expected to open ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Officials urged motorists to expect delays and allow extra travel time through the area.
