“Furious 7” had a great monthlong run atop the North American box office, but it is about to be dethroned by the latest “Avengers” film, which collected $27.6 million overnight in midnight showings, according to figures released Friday.

The success of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” in early showings topped the totals of its predecessor film, which collected $18.7 million in overnight screenings in 2012, according to Disney figures provided to box-office tracker Rentrak.

The film could top the $200 million mark domestically by the end of the weekend.

According to Disney figures, “Age of Ultron” has already earned $287.3 million internationally, including a $6.8 million opening Thursday in Mexico, meaning the film has already collected $314.9 million globally.
