Rampaging dinosaurs again ruled the box office over the weekend, as “Jurassic World” bested the animated “Inside Out” to maintain the number-one spot at North American theaters, according to final figures released today.
“Jurassic World” earned $54.5 million between Friday and Sunday to push its three-week take over the half-billion-dollar mark, according to box- office tracker Rentrak.
Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out” was a close second with $52.3 million, giving it a two-week total of $185.1 million.
Writer/director Seth MacFarlane’s bawdy “Ted 2” debuted in third place with $33.5 million, while the more family friendly “Max” opened in fourth with $12.2 million.
The comedy “Spy” took fifth place with $7.9 million.
Rounding out the top 10 movies of the weekend were “San Andreas” ($5.4 million); “Dope” ($2.8 million); “Insidious Chapter 3” ($2 million); “Mad Max: Fury Road” ($1.8 million); and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” ($1.7 million).
