A tiny superhero bested a pack of yellow “villains” to win the North American box office race, according to final figures released Monday.
“Ant-Man” debuted in first place by collecting $57.2 million between Friday and Sunday, according to box office tracker Rentrak. Meanwhile, “Minions” continued to prove its worth at theaters, earning $49.3 million to push its two-week total to $215.8 million.
The Amy Schumer comedy “Trainwreck” opened in third place with $30.1 million.
Disney’s animated “Inside Out” also continued to attract moviegoers, collecting another $11.5 million to give it $306.2 million in its five weeks of release.
“Jurassic World,” meanwhile, earned $11.4 million over the weekend, giving it a six-week total of $611.2 million domestically.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Terminator Genisys ($5.4 million); “Magic Mike XXL” ($4.4 million); “Gallows” ($4 million); “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” ($2.62 million); and “Ted 2” ($2.6 million).
