Cancer-stricken Valerie Harper, the sassy pal of Mary Tyler Moore and star of the spinoff “Rhoda,” was recovering at an undisclosed location Friday after being hospitalized Wednesday night.
The Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine released a statement saying the 75-year-old actress, who has battled cancer, is is looking forward to getting back on stage.
She was hospitalized before a performance of “Nice Work If You Can Get It.” York General Hospital says she was released Thursday.
The playhouse denied reports that Harper was in a coma.
Harper had been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the brain two years ago. She was a lung cancer patient six years ago, but that malady appeared to have been cured.
Harper was best known as Rhoda, Moore’s quirky but lovable best friend on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Harper played a single middle-aged neighbor desperately seeking a husband. Later on her shows she did succeed in finding a husband, only to go through a painful divorce on screen.
