House Speaker John Boehner isn’t the only celeb announcing his retirement. Country Music Hall of Famer Kenny Rogers did the same Friday morning.

On the “Today Show,” the 77-year-old singer said, “It’s happily sad or sadly happy. I’m going to do a big worldwide tour, and it’s going to be my last. I’m going to say goodbye at that point; I’ve done this long enough.”

On Twitter, Rogers acknowledged an outpouring of appreciation:

As a younger man, he said, he crossed the fine line between being driven and being selfish.

Now he wants to spend more time with His five children, including 11-year-old twin sons, Jordan and Justin.

“I really want to be there with my kids,” Rogers said. “They’re very important to me, and I don’t see enough of them.”

“I’m sure I will miss [touring]. I swore that I would do this until I embarrassed myself. I don’t walk around: well, so I’ve found some new humor. My mobility is really driving me crazy.”

The singer’s road trip will include his annual Christmas tour beginning Nov. 11 and ending Dec. 23.
