“Spotlight” was announced as the inaugural recipient of the Los Angeles Press Club’s Veritas Award for the best film based on or inspired by real events and people.

The award was determined by a membership vote.

“It seems only fitting our members would choose ‘Spotlight’ for our inaugural Vertitas Award — a film based on an explosive piece of investigative journalism that explores the process to get it to print,” said KNBC-TV reporter Robert Kovacik, the press club’s president.

Two of The Boston Globe reporters depicted in the film, Sacha Pfeiffer and Mike Rezendes, and assistant managing editor Ben Bradlee Jr. will accept the award next Thursday at The Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood.
