Kansas fans were flattered but fearful upon hearing that President Obama had chosen KU to win the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. In the past, when he’s picked the Bill Self-coached team to go all the way, the Jayhawks have been bounced early.

As Kentucky Sports Radio noted: President Obama has picked the correct national champion only once in the past seven years
“If you believe in the Obama jinx, you’ll like his picks this year. Obama picked Kansas, Texas A&M, North Carolina, and Michigan State to advance to the Final Four in Houston. He has Kentucky losing to North Carolina in the Sweet 16, but gave Calipari a shoutout for how he (and other elite coaches) develop young talent.
“I have a tendency to pick the coach as much as anything. Coach K or Coach Izzo or Coach Self or Coach Calipari. They know how to take — even if they’re blue chip freshman and mold them so that by the time the tournament rolls around, they’re ready.”
