A trio of new films dominated the national box office over the weekend, but a horror sequel led them all to claim the top spot, according to final figures released Monday.

“The Conjuring 2” debuted in first place with $40.4 million, according to box-office tracker comScore. “Warcraft,” a film based on the online role- playing game, opened in second place with $24.2 million.

Another sequel, “Now You See Me 2,” debuted in third place by earning $22.4 million between Friday and Sunday.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” collected $14.4 million in its second weekend of release, giving it a total take of $60.6 million. “X-Men: Apocalypse” finished in fifth place with $9.9 million, boosting its three-week total to $136.3 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Me Before You” ($9 million); “The Angry Birds Movie” ($6.6 million); “Alice Through The Looking Glass” ($5.6 million); “Captain America: Civil War” ($4.3 million); and “The Jungle Book” ($2.8 million).
