
Just in time for the Halloween season, a macabre new movie by Tim Burton opened as the most-popular film in North America.
“Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children” opened with an estimated $28.5 million in ticket sales in the United States and Canada, according to estimates from the Fox studio.
“Deepwater Horizon” opened in second place, with an estimated $20.6 million in sales, according to studio estimates gathered by industry analysts at comScore.
“The Magnificent Seven” was above $61.6 million in domestic sales after two weeks, with a $15.7 million projected for this weekend.
Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this week, as estimated by the studios, were “Storks” ($13.8 million), “Sully” ($8.4 million), “Masterminds” (debuting at $6.6 million), “Queen Of Katwe” ($2.6 million), “Don’t Breathe” ($2.4 million), “Bridget Jones’s Baby” ($2.3 million) and “Snowden” ($2 million).
