Hundreds of rock ‘n’ roll die-hards descended on The Grove Monday for a chance to meet Bruce Springsteen during a book-signing at Barnes & Noble.
Fans waited for hours in advance of the midday book-signing, hoping for a chance to briefly meet the music icon and get his signature on his memoir, “Born to Run,” which was released last week.
It was unclear exactly how many people showed up for the event, but Barnes & Noble officials capped the line at about 1,100 people, which is roughly the number of copies of the book that were available for signing by The Boss. The event reached capacity before dawn, according to the store.
Fans were permitted to begin lining up at 4 a.m., but some said they showed up days ago to get a spot in line.
“I wouldn’t stand here for Jesus, but I would for Springsteen,” one fan joked to NBC4 early this morning.
Another fan praised the singer for offering people a chance to meet him.
“Here’s the thing, he’s one of the greatest writers and living legends and rock-and-roll hall of famer and one of the greatest live performers in the world, and he doesn’t have to do this,” he told Channel 4. “He doesn’t have to, like, shake hands with sweaty people who have been here for a day and a half.”
