In her latest pop-culture incarnation, Miley Cyrus is using her platform on “The Voice” to push for LGBTQ rights. But she wants to expand the acronym.
“I never related to loving being a girl,” she told Variety in an 1,800-word Q&A. And then, being a boy didn’t sound fun to me. I think the LGBTQ alphabet could continue forever. But there’s a ‘P’ that should happen, for ‘pansexual.’”
She further told Ramin Setoodeh: “I am only doing ‘The Voice’ because that helps Happy Hippie,” the nonprofit group founded by Cyrus that aims to “rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations.”
Cyrus says she feels “very neutral. … Once I understood my gender more, which was unassigned, then I understood my sexuality more. I was like, “Oh — that’s why I don’t feel straight and I don’t feel gay. It’s because I’m not.”
A “really big Bernie supporter,” Cyrus also was asked about the White House race.
“This is not a dig,” she said. “But I do think there’s something that goes with the Kardashians and Trump. The Kardashians are better than Trump, because they are not trying to run the country. They are just trying to be famous, and that’s fine. We are obsessed with celebrity. When Trump started this, I was laughing. I thought it’s not going to go anywhere; there’s no way he’ll be the candidate.”
Cyrus was asked what she tells Bernie Sanders supporters who won’t vote for Hillary Clinton.
That’s f—–g crazy and you’re out of your mind,” she replied. “It’s literally pissing me off more than anything. If you could ever consider Donald Trump, you never understood Bernie in the first place.”
