Justice Sonia Sotomayor wanted to “bash,” “smash,” “smack” or “whack” fellow Supreme Courter Antonin Scalia in the head — if not want him dead, according to right-wing bloggers and social media.

Not exactly.

Sotomayor actually was making a joke about her pique at the late justice’s views when she was quoted as saying Monday: “There are things he’s said on the bench where if I had a baseball bat, I might have used it.”

Slate.com reported: “Sotomayor added, however, that losing Scalia was like losing a family member, and that his seething dissents were simply his opportunity to ‘vent.’ She also explained that the justices try to remember that ‘differences don’t stand, necessarily, on ill will. If you keep that in mind, you can resolve almost any issue, because you can find that common ground to interact with each other.’”

The left-leaning Wonkette also made light of the heavy hitter: “The takeaway here is that liberals are by nature prone to violence, so Donald Trump must be allowed to appoint more even-tempered people to the Supreme Court than this violent, temperamental Sotomayor lady. Good thing Sotomayor didn’t try to float her little violent fantasy at Wonkette — we’ve got rules, after all.”
