Jane Fonda went to Hanoi to protest Vietnam in 1972. Now she’s gone to Hollywood and Vine to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline — and celebrate her 79th birthday.
The actress signaled her return to political activism with a blog post.
“For those of us who have accounts in the banks that have loaned money to DAPL, we should ask the banks how they could have put our money into such a terrible investment. In order to speed up the demise of the superfluous, contaminating, greedy DAPL, a powerful new movement has arisen called DeFund DAPL. We are taking our money out of those banks.”
So Fonda joined Lily Tomlin, Frances Fisher and Catherine Keener — plus labor leader Dolores Huerta — at a #BankExit rally, where she attempted to withdraw her deposits from Wells Fargo amid cameras and Indian drums and chants.
But a Facebook post said: “Jane Fonda locked out of Wells Fargo when attempting to empty her account.”
Her friends sang “Happy Birthday.”
