A man who won a Daytime Emmy as a co-producer of the online soap opera “The Bay” has been sentenced to 13 years in state prison for stabbing his tenant, who laughed after the defendant said he would win five Academy Awards.
Superior Court Judge Gregory Dohi imposed the maximum term on Andre Salaman Bautista, 38, of Studio City, who was convicted Feb. 22 in a non-jury trial of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to Deputy District Attorney Elan Carr.
Allegations that Bautista used a knife and inflicted great bodily injury were also found to be true.
The sentencing was Wednesday.
Bautista stabbed his tenant in the chest on Sept. 8, 2015, after the man laughed when Bautista said he would win five Oscars, according to trial testimony.
Bautista had previously written and starred in an independent movie about a landlord who killed his tenants, according to evidence presented in court.
Bautista — who won his Daytime Emmy award under the name Andre Bauth — surrendered later to authorities at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.
