Ed Sheeran isn’t really quitting Twitter. Just not paying attention to it.
Despite the headlines, the British pop star will continue informing his 19.2 million followers via Instagram, whose links are automatically posted to his Twitter feed.
In an interview with The Sun posted Monday, the 26-year-old singer/songwriter said:” “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it.”
Why not?
“I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that. One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it.”
That didn’t stop the BBC from asking the follow-up: What comments in particular?
“Irritating ginger busker” is a particularly common insult, and another: “Ed Sheeran come to my house and I will show you how to tune a guitar you useless mess.”
The Beeb also notes other Twitter quitters: “Stars including Miley Cyrus, Sue Perkins, Stephen Fry, Halsey and Avengers director Joss Whedon have all quit the site after suffering abuse.”
Reactions he won’t see:
RT ???? Ed Sheeran has quit Twitter as “one negative comment ruins your day”, and yet I have to hear his songs maybe 4 times a day. For years.

Ed Sheeran has left Twitter because of ‘abuse’, and Green Day have pulled a gig in Glasgow because it’s raining.
Did Lemmy die for this?
