Bruce Willis will never die hard. He’ll just keep making movies like “Death Wish.”
But a trailer for the remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson film is getting hammered from the left, if not the Hollywood Left.
“Fair or not, I can’t think of a more tone-deaf idea in this political/social environment than white filmmakers remaking #DEATHWISH,” tweeted Scott Mendelson a critic at Forbes.
Said Alan Zilberman of The Washington Post: “Eli Roth’s Death Wish remake is so nakedly fascist that alt-righters” will be aroused “before the trailer ends.”
USA Today said: “The backlash to the backlash has already started, with voices on the right calling out the ‘Democratic meltdown over Death Wish.’”
Death Wish is slated to come out Nov. 22.
Early reviews of the trailer:
Twitter: “Death Wish” is fascist propaganda.
Me: C’mon, it can’t be that bad.
*watches trailer*
Yeah, that’s fascist propaganda.

Eli Roth’s Death Wish remake is so nakedly fascist that alt-righters will have an erection before the trailer ends https://t.co/sDY5fQXR9W

Fair or not, I can’t think of a more tone-deaf idea in this political/social environment than white filmmakers remaking #DEATHWISH…

Maybe #DeathWish isn’t a good idea in a post-Trayvon Martin world. White dudes on vigilante rampages for their fridged wife is very 1980…

The most improbable thing about this Death Wish remake is the idea of anyone in Chicago being able to buy a gun legally.

Man, that DEATH WISH remake just looks like every flavour of bad. Eli Roth and Bruce Willis stuck in each other’s career death spirals.

Willis is already an action guy which defeats entire purpose of ‘Death Wish’ of normal guy gone rogue. How do they screw this basic thing up

can’t wait not to see the remake of DEATH WISH

I would be much more excited about a new death wish movie if Paul Giamatti was the star.
