Celebrities have been stepping up to the plate with donations to assist relief efforts in Houston, with some responding to a social media challenge issued by comedian Kevin Hart.
Hart posted a challenge on Instagram Sunday night, and again Monday, “calling out” celebrities to encourage them to make donations. He said he was reaching out to “anybody right now who’s in a powerful position where we can impact this issue.”
“Let’s help, let’s really, really try to save some lives,” Hart — who personally donated $50,000 — said in an Instagram video.
Among those responding to the challenge was the Kardashian family, which announced a $500,000 donation to the cause. Khloe Kardashian announced the gift on Twitter, writing, “Houston we are praying for you!!”
Kim Kardashian West and Kris Jenner also posted words of encouragement for Houston and urged people to make donations to the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
“We must all stand together in times of need,” Jenner wrote.
R&B singer Chris Brown also responded to Hart’s challenge, announcing a $100,000 donation to relief efforts.
“I implore and encourage anybody else who can change and make a change for this to please donate,” Brown said in a video posted on social media.
