Bill Maher and Jimmy Kimmel have something in common with Homer Simpson: Their TV shows are all produced in Hollywood.
And for that those two real characters, the cartoon dad and a host of other entertainment icons are being honored by a group of local politicians, unions and government agencies.
The Made In Hollywood Honors for Television had much to celebrate Tuesday, recognizing a record-setting 23 Emmy-nominated and locally produced shows during a ceremony at the Heart of Hollywood Terrace at the 1600 Vine St. facility that really is in the “heart of Hollywood” between Hollywood and Sunset boulevards.
Over the past five years, the awards have honored TV shows and films made locally to encourage productions to remain in “Tinseltown.”
“The Made in Hollywood Honors is recognizing even more shows this year because of increased production in Los Angeles,” said Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, one of the event’s co-hosts.
“In fact there are 27 percent more Emmy-nominated shows made in Hollywood and the state of California.
“The incentives that went into effect in 2015 are stimulating the local economy, helping families stay together, supporting local businesses and increasing our tax base which helps to fund basic city services.”
The MIHH is co-sponsored by SAG-AFTRA, Film L.A., the California Film Commission, Teamsters Local 399, Film Musicians Secondary Markets Fund, the Producers Guild of America, and 1600 VINE.
A second show honoring Oscar nominees takes place in February.
