The New York Times got scooped on its own story — sex harassment accusations against Times reporter Glenn Thrush, who is now suspended.

Vox.com broke the story of how the 50-year-old White House reporter has a history of getting drunk and coming on to female journalists in their 20s — and then telling male friends the women were the aggressors.

“The women cited in the Vox article described Mr. Thrush’s behavior as including unwanted kissing and touching,” the Times said later. “Three of the women were not identified by name. The fourth, Laura McGann, wrote the article, which was presented in the first person.”

McGann said: “If Thrush is acutely aware of what young women face in the business of political journalism, he should also know it’s because he himself is one of the problems women face.”

Five years ago, she said, Thrush “caught me off guard, put his hand on my thigh, and suddenly started kissing me.”

In a statement emailed to McGann, Thrush said: “I apologize to any woman who felt uncomfortable in my presence, and for any situation where I behaved inappropriately. Any behavior that makes a woman feel disrespected or uncomfortable is unacceptable.”

Others were skeptical.
